Les saisons passent, les sessions d’enregistrements s’enchainent et à chaque sortie de projet Bat Records confirme sa position indiscutable de producteur et fournisseur reggae de premier choix. Depuis les proches environs de Clermont Ferrand, le label des Dub Shepherds abreuve les roots music lovers et les soundsystems de toute la planète. Le son authentique, le studio construit sur le modèle de ceux des maîtres jamaïcains, les musiciens affutés, les MC et chanteurs prêts à en découdre, une approche du dub exclusive : Jolly Joseph et Doctor Charty se sont donné les moyens de partager leur propre approche du reggae. Aujourd’hui ils produisent un son artisanal et made in France qui rend bel hommage à ses racines caribéennes.

Le projet qui sort en ce mois de Mai 2025 vient concrétiser plusieurs années de collaboration entre Dub Shepherds et Junior Roy. Habitué des sessions au BAT Records Studio, figure clé de la scène soundsystem, le chanteur et MC français présente ici son véritable premier projet de LP solo. Après à la sortie réussie d’un maxi 45 tours à l’été 2023, les Shepherds et Roy ont naturellement commencé à nourrir de nouvelles ambitions. Suite logique des opérations, l’’arrivée de « Troddin On » sur les platines est autant un aboutissement qu’un nouveau tremplin vers l’avenir de leur alliance.

Ici, comme de rigueur chez BAT Records, le son est chaud, les basslines pèsent et les riddims groovent sans retenue sur de solides assises rythmiques. « Troddin On » fleur lourd les ambiances roots 80s et 70s. Au micro, Junior Roy se joue des hauteurs et explore les thématiques sacrées du genre. Le timbre est vibrant, les vocaux chargés en émotions s’élèvent et embrassent des instrumentaux taillés sur mesure. Ici, on cause roots music, on cause reggae sans détours jusqu’à donner au projet la forme album showcase traditionnelle qui associe chaque track à sa version dub. Et question Dub chez Dub Shepherds ça se fait façon « Hardmix » sans concessions mais avec grande maîtrise !

With each new release Dub Shepards & Bat Records solidify their undisputable position as one of the leading production teams and suppliers of reggae music. From the outskirts of Clermont Ferrand, the Dub Shepherds quench the thirst of roots lovers and soundsystem selecters worldwide. With their authentic sound and their studio built in the tradition of the Jamaican forefathers that is stocked with razor sharp musicians, MCs and singers- they are always ready to go to work. Equipped with an exclusive approach to dub: Jolly Joseph and Doctor Charty have the ways and means to produce and share their own take on this music they love so deeply. Today they produce a handcrafted sound that is made-in-France. Paying tribute to reggae music’s foundation stones.

Their new project coming out in May 2025 is the culmination of several years of collaboration between Dub Shepherds and Junior Roy, a regular at BAT Records Studio and a key figure in the global soundsystem scene. This release is the French singer and MC’s very first LP, entitled “Troddin On”. After the successful release of a 12 Inch 45 in the summer of 2023, the Shepherds and Roy naturally began to ferment new ideas. The arrival of this LP on the turntables is both a milestone and a stepping stone towards the future of this union.

As is customary with BAT Records the sound is warm, the basslines heavy and the riddims groove on solid rhythmic footing. “Troddin On” revives the feel of 80s and 70s Jamaican music. Behind the mic, Junior Roy navigates the highs and explores the sacred themes of the genre. His voice is vibrant, his emotionally charged lyrics soar, embracing instrumentals. Perfectly tailored to fit. This is roots music, this is reggae, no detours—each track is paired with its dub version, giving the project a traditional album showcase format. And when it comes to Dub, with the Dub Shepherds it’s all about “Hardmix”—no compromises, just great mastery!

Dub Shepherds met Echo Minott in 2016 through the Dub Master Clash project, a dub evening concept that saw several dub producers “battle it out”. A solid friendship was born between the Jamaican and the young Clermont-Ferrand producers.
From these reverb and echo clashes came a 12” maxi, ‘This World is inna Mess’, etching in wax the first collaboration between Dub Shepherds and Echo Minott.

… You Shall Reap Someday
In 2023, Dr Charty and I Fi travel to Jamaica with a bag full of riddims produced at the Bat Records studio, and are greeted on the spot by Echo Minott. Get the picture? La première fois que nous avons découvert la voix d’Emanuel, c’était lors de la réalisation de l’album Soul Medicine de Pinnacle Sound ( BAT 007), c’était en 2021. Certaines gifles laissent une marque profonde et indélébile. Nous savions alors qu’une nouvelle aventure était sur le point de naître. Tout vient à point à qui sait attendre, et ce qui devait arriver arriva : Emanuel sollicita Bat Records pour la réalisation de son nouveau projet. Nations Shall Know est le fruit de cette rencontre.Emanuel & The Bionites sont les multiples facettes d’un seul homme. Producteur appliqué, c’est avec une sélection de ses meilleures compositions qu’il frappe à la porte de Bat Records pour poser sur bande son style unique. L’idée est claire, produire un album Showcase : pour chaque vocal, un dub mixé par le duo phare Dub Shepherds.D’une chanson pour enfant à la puissance soul en introduction sur le “Arkitect“, à l’Afrique comme thème central sur “Imansion“, au pur chant de louange sur le “Jah Love“, en passant par des riddim chaleureux portant des textes aux résonnances apocalyptiques comme sur le titre “Nations Shall Know“, il y en aura pour tous les goûts.

The first time we discovered Emanuel‘s voice was during the making of Pinnacle Sound‘s album Soul Medicine (BAT 007), it was in 2021. Some slaps leave a deep and indelible mark. We knew then that a new adventure was about to be born. On prend les mêmes et on recommence
Une semaine d’hiver au One Buck studio, 4 musiciens. Ocman Dread et Ras Salam font à nouveau appel à Jolly Joseph et Dr Charty pour les accompagner à la guitare, basse, claviers… Les enregistrements de cette session ne laissent pas deviner les températures négatives et le givre à l’extérieur, les riddims sont ensoleillés et le son chaud. Le 5ème album de Pinnacle Sound est dans le sillage des précédents, du roots qui donne le sourire.Le souffle c’est la vie
La suite se passe au studio Bat Records. Les Dub Shepherds affinent ces prises où le souffle et le grain se mêlent, à la recherche de l’authenticité qui fait la particularité de Pinnacle Sound depuis ses débuts. A grands renforts de machines vintage et de bandes magnétiques, l’album se précise et commence à prendre forme.

De nombreux invités
Autre marque de fabrique de Pinnacle Sound, de nombreux invités derrière le micro sont présents sur ce disque comme sur les précédents. On retrouve les incontournables : Marcus I et Jolly Joseph, auxquels s’ajoutent de nouvelles voix, comme Payoh SoulRebel qui ouvre l’album avec le titre “Downpressure” sans équivoque : nous sommes là pour passer un bon moment ! Grande nouveauté sur cet album, la présence de voix féminines ! Le trio Les Steadies délivre le brillant “Thank You”, et Nina Murple signe la balade “By The Train”.

Vous l’aurez compris, Pinnacle Sound dévoile un nouvel album riche et généreux, 10 titres du plus kitsch au plus profond, qui ne laisseront personne indifférent.

We take the same and start again
A winter week at One Buck studio, 4 musicians. Ocman Dread and Ras Salam once again call on Jolly Joseph and Dr Charty to accompany them on guitar, bass, keyboards… The recordings of this session do not suggest the negative temperatures and the frost outside, the riddims are sunny and sound warm. Pinnacle Sound’s 5th album is in the wake of the previous ones, roots that make you smile.

Breath is life
The rest takes place at the Bat Records studio. The Dub Shepherds refine these takes where breath and grain mingle, in search of the authenticity that has made Pinnacle Sound special since its beginnings. With the help of vintage machines and magnetic tapes, the album takes shape and begins to take shape.

Many guests
Another Pinnacle Sound trademark, numerous guests behind the microphone are present on this disc as on the previous ones. We find the essentials: Marcus I and Jolly Joseph, to which are added new voices, like Payoh SoulRebel who opens the album with the unequivocal “Downpressure”: we are here to have a good time!
